Fashion does not have to be unsustainable. In this vein, with an attempt to foster environmental as well as social sustainability, the talented beauty Emma Watson is making a serious statement. Her new mission is to endorse sustainability and convert red carpet into a green one. During the promotional tour of her upcoming movie ‘Regression’, the young activist is  going to make her choice of outfits  based on ethical criteria. For each red carpet appearance and/or press conference, she is going to wear a unique look from various fashion designers who create their design with sustainability in mind. Her announcement was made via Instagram with a statement of supporting brands that are considering local craft and production, artisan skills, the environment, sustainability, and the longevity of fashion.

Sustainability is a multifaceted topic, and undoubtedly the fashion industry has large rooms to fill in based on ethical and environmental considerations. I adore Emma Watson and my respect has gone beyond words because of her conscious action. We all need to stand up to highlight the importance of exploring alternative materials, new techniques and achieving better yet more sustainable business solution to improve the conditions of ‘behind the scene’ for fashion.
